When fitting Winter tyres for UK use is it permissible to fit tyres with a lower speed rating?
My car has 195/60 x 15 V rated tyres. Can I legally fit a lower rated winter Tyre? Are there any insurance implications?
I’d expect minimum tyre spec to be listed in your handbook.
Nice article at [1], and yes the Highway Code is a bit thin on the subject [2]. But there’s also the AA [3].
I can’t see why a tyre rated for 70mph would be a problem in the UK, because that’s the national limit. Maybe go for a slightly higher rating though. Certainly, I’d be having a quick chat with my insurer – what are you paying them for
