What is causing my car’s coolant to leak out from the radiator/expansion tank cap?

I have a 2000 BMW Z3 and just recently, it has started releasing radiator fluid from under the radiator cap in quick bursts every 10 seconds or so. When I start the car and let it idle, it takes a minute to do this; when I rev the engine, the higher I rev, the faster the fluid leaks out. I’ve tried replacing the cap but the problem continues. What is more likely to be the cause of this problem – the expansion tank or the Thermostat? Or is there something I might be overlooking that could cause this?
